United Global First – Not Worth It

Hello everyone and thank you for tuning into justanotherflightreview.travel.blog today! I will be sharing my experience about 2 years ago – 3 years ago on United Global First from Singapore to Tokyo! Excuse the lack of photos. The flight is now operated by Nippon Airways.

Total Paid for Flight: Around SGD$10000

At check-in, United was kind enough to offer a separate check-in for first-class passengers, with a nice rug/mat. After check-in, I headed for the United lounge which was shared with Business and First class passengers,  located near the check-in area. The lounge was adequate in size and also in style, although it did lack a lot of the features that Singapore Air’s lounges offer such as good food and free drinks. Later on, after I left the lounge, I headed to the boarding area in which I saw the massive plane taking us to Tokyo, the 777-300ER. First and business class passengers were boarded first, followed by economy class. Upon boarding, I was handed with a wet towel and the menu for the flight. See below for photos of seats. The flight attendants were nice but not as kind as the ones on Emirates or Singapore Airlines. The seats were comfortable enough although there really was no privacy onboard the plane, something that Emirates and Singapore Air both had on their First Class products at that time. After taking off I watched movies on the adequately sized screen before going trying to sleep, which I did not achieve as it was only a 7-8 hour flight. There were noise canceling headphones however there was no separation between first class and business class meaning that anyone from business class could see into first class. Not a major problem but when you pay top dollar, you expect top privacy and service. After a couple of hours, it was time for dinner which was better than I expected! I took the choice of a steak and a small cake for dessert. After 8 hours of flying, we finally reached Tokyo Narita Airport. See my overall remarks below along with photos. Thank you for reading and I hope that you have enjoyed my review! Remember to bookmark and share!

Overall Remarks:

Price: Over Priced, 5/10

Service: Acceptable, 7/10

Food: Good, 8/10

Seat comfort and privacy: OK, 7/10

Privacy between classes: Not great: 6/10

Overall Rating: OK, 7/10

The best Frequent Flyer Memberships

Hello everyone! Today I will be doing something a bit different, a frequent flyer membership rating. Here are my top picks for frequent flyer memberships!

  1. Alaska Air’s mileage plan. Alaska airlines have been known for giving the best frequent flyer program for a long time. From the fact that the silver status is very easy to achieve to their amazing support, it just makes it an obvious number 1.
  2. Emirates Skyawards. Not only does Emirates give you great deals with how many miles you earn on each flight, they also offer purchasable lounge access for those flying on Economy who may not have a load of points! The only downside is that the points + miles combination can be a bit tricky and rather expensive.
  3. Singapore Airlines Krisflyer. There is nothing really to say about this frequent flyer membership but the crazy amount of things that you can use your miles for. Furthermore, the upgrades from Economy to Business class are not too expensive. Only downside is that booking a flight can be rather costly compared to other airlines.

I will be updating this list later on, thanks for reading!

SilkAir Business Class Review

This is my first review so excuse any mistakes I make.

FLIGHT: SINGAPORE (SIN) TO KOH SAMUI (USM)

PLANE: AIRBUS A320-100

Starting off at the airport, Silkair gives you a nice welcome with a business class check-in. You can also use the Singapore Airlines one if you wish. The check-ins have a nice carpet on which you step on. After the check-in, I proceeded to security, which at Singapore is nicely arranged making it easy to get through. After doing some shopping, I proceeded into the Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Silver Lounge, which is can be used by Singapore Airlines and SIlkair business class passengers. There was a nice selection of food and drinks and a toilet which contained a shower. The staff was kind as well, and there was a great selection of newspapers for the average business man. After leaving the lounge it was time to board the plane. Being an old plane, it still featured SilkAir’s old business class seats, although this did not really bother me. Since it was only a  2-hour flight, the seats did not recline fully, but they were comfortable enough. Upon boarding, I was handed a welcome drink and a magazine. There was an adequate amount of legroom but a lot of it would end up being taken by any luggage that you decided to leave by your legs. After take-off, I was presented with a menu with various different options. I chose the chicken meal. It didn’t taste up to business class standards, see below for a picture, so I was left disappointed. Another disappointing thing was the IFE on the plane. There was no screen and rather you had to your own device to watch anything. Sadly though there was a very small selection of movies and tv-shows, really something that SilkAir need to work on. After attempting to watch one episode of Big Bang Theory, I tried to sleep. The seats were comfortable enough for me to get at least 20 minutes of sleep before waking up for arrival at Koh Samui.

Overall thoughts:

Price: I’m rating it as a 5/10. It cost around 1600 round trip on business class, and in the end, it was not worth it really.

Comfortability: 8/10

Airport Services: 9/10

Quality inside: 6/10

Final Rating:

8/10
